Past being a sign of beauty, long eyelashes serve a bodily purpose. Did you know that long eyelashes are made out of 3 percent water and 97 percent keratin which is protein found in nails and our top layer of skin. Each of a person’s many long eyelashes is made up of a strand, shaft, root and follicle. Within every hair follicle is a miniscule blood vessel that the body uses to nourish the hair.
The cortical layer of a hair shaft is where we get our color from. A shaft can have any pairing of red, yellow or black. The percentage of each of these colors has an effect on the actual color of our eyelashes.
I bet you didn’t know that the lifespan of a single eyelash is anywhere between 150-200 days. That is assuming they are not weakened by an eyelash extension, scratching or something else. There are also more eyelashes on the upper lid then the lower. Now that you know more than you ever thought you would have to about eyelashes, you can spread the knowledge.
